Archive for the “entertainment” CategoryLet it be know that we do not just do computers… we are Apple, not Apple Computers. Ah name changes do nothing about your products… awesome keynotes do that. Especially if you are at MacWorld. With Jobs keynote speech today being the end all be all of keynotes, Bill should be a little blue today after MS showing at CES yesterday (YAWN). Can you say:
Maybe yesterday was the day to buy Apple stock? BG’s call this afternoon:

X360 with IPTV GoodnessPosted by Don Hass in entertainment, gaming, microsoft, network, techIf MS promise of IPTV on the X360 comes true, there might just be another reason to own a X360 in your home. Ditch the old cable box and get TV goodness from the gaming console the “knows it can, it can, it can”. The biggest problem? Holiday 2007! DOH It currently sounds like that IPTV will not be available in the current version of the 360. To support the new functionality you would have to get v2 of the X360 to be released near the end of 2007. If this is really true that is going to really stink for the 10.4 million that have their current version of the 360. Plus the HDMI rumor is now related to this v2 version. So far I have not found any 100% proof that this is true or not. Tags: XBOX 360How did MS do for the holidays? MS stated at CES that it had sold 10.4 million 360 consoles in 37 countries. Even more impressive was the sale of 2.7 million copies of Gears of War in the eight weeks since official launch. Where was Sony, saying that they had made a million blue ray diode lasers so they could “ship” 1 million unit by the end of the year to the US. Shipped, not sold, not that anyone asked for them, just shipped so they could collect dust in your local Wally world or BestUBuy. Tags: XBOX 360Up until now there has been continued speculation as to who will win this war? There is comparison of capacity, performance, features, etc. Once again it seems Sony is its own worst enemy. With flash backs to the beta max and VHS days it seems the deciding vote has happened without anyone but Sony deciding. What decided the format war so many years ago? Porn, thats right folks. The porn industry picked up the VHS format and ran with it and basically decided the bm fate! Well it would appear that the same thing is going to happen again. Sony says they will not allow any X rated movies be released on blu-ray. So one of the leaders in the adult industry (Digital Playground) will be using HD-DVD. With the assumption that the other adult movie leaders follow suit (like they have any choice) since no blu-ray manufacture will produce the disc. This is because Sony has threatened to pull any manufactures licensing if the produce X content. This is about if you are for or against the porn industry, it is an BIG money maker in the world and will just like so many years ago drive where the technology goes. Heck they were the leaders in on-line payment via the web. They solidified the VHS war. This too shall put the stamp of blu-ray. Nice job Sony. Now you can have those stacks of blu-ray disc sitting next to the stacks of PS3 in all those stores collecting dust. Tags: HD-DVD

PS3 – Can you hear me?Posted by Don Hass in entertainment, gaming, hardware, sony, techAnyone notice the high demand for PS3 has turned into a high demand for dusting at your local electronic boutique? It would appear that if you walk into any retail store that sales game consoles you will find plenty of all three consoles (x360, wii, ps3). Ask what people are demanding after the holiday rush? Wii first, x360 next and then maybe a PS3 here and there. I have now heard from numerous store department managers that say they leave the PS3 in the back to leave more shelf space for Wii stock and then x360. It seems Sony isn’t feeling the love. It seems the even with Sony touting their 1 million units “shipped” to the US quite of lot of that stock is not sold, but actually sitting around collecting dust. Heck I had two department managers (1 big chain retailer and 1 big electronic retailer) both same similar things. People are actually returning “unopened” PS3 systems for credit and getting WiiX combo. (Wii + X360). Ouch, that has to hurt. Heck even if Sony somehow post good sales figures for Dec.. I would hate to see how much of that holds true in Jan when people when and got there 600 credits for other consoles. Tendo and MS should have a solid alliance in that they both can share the living room / game room. Sony you just have soiled too many people. Come on, look at your glorious PSP, beautiful, but UMD. OUCH. What there is maybe 2 games for it since it release in March 2005? |
