Well it appears that it is official that the new 2008 Singapore F1 race is going to be held at Night!  How awesome is that going to be.  Some of the fastest cars flying around a new track in the dark.  Awesome.  September 2008 can not get here quick enough now.

This will be the first time in history of Formula 1 that a race will be held at night time.  As long as the FIA doesn’t monkey this one up, this should be incredible.  Way to go Singapore.

The inaugural Singapore event, to be held on a new street circuit, is scheduled to take place on September 28…. tick, tick, tick… quicker damn it.

Will the 2007 season is over. Damn

Ok, well this was an odd season. Kimi Räikkönen is the season winner taking it from Lewis. Lewis lost it back in Japan if you recall and that is where his winning trend took a tyre tread down turn!

Only 144 more days to the 2008 season! Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne all begins March 14 – 16. Looking forward to a season of more change. Watch the youngster make even more impact IMHO. Bye bye Ralf.

Heck check out Williams super computer: Williams’ F1 team get a Top 125 super computer. Lenovo’s 8TFLOPS machine for CFD action in wind tunnel. 8 Tera flops folks.

But you don’t even have to look at CFD and wind tunnel work. Look at all the telimentry that the teams get, the amount of real-time sensors and data and the software to consume that as fast as you can. Heck these teams roll with complete server rooms in a freight box that hops from country to country. Just pure awesome. I think I am blushing!

So now I have heard this numerous times and read it all over and you can even see it in the pits with the pit crew yawning….

Is F1 just too boring for most?

I started typing up a long list of pro’s and con’s… why it was boring, why it wasn’t. It is like telling a Nascar fan that always turning left is shear hell! Personally unless there is dirt under those tires, 4 left turns are a snooze… :) But that is just me.

So I am sure the non-F1 fan says Boring easily. I guess my interest is the technology that the F1 teams use to create (and I mean create) these cars. No kit car Nascar fans! That is why there is a constructors trophy for the past 50 years that personally means something here.

Two passions: fast cars and fast computers.

The tech in the cars and supporting the cars is what continues to drive me to watch this sport. There is no other motor sport that can even come close to F1. I wonder what the future holds for F1 as they continue to fight to tweak cars in the sub second tweaks. When you are looking at wings not being painted on the leading edge just to shave off 1 tenth of a second, tech is completely “driving” this sport.

Next year changes should definitely have impact on how the driver drives the car. But the tech outside the car most likely only becomes more important. I am working on a post about the supercomputers some of the top teams are using. It is fascinating (at least to me) what they are using and how.

So Hamilton gets pole at home! But I have to admit that qualifying was rather boring and I expected Hamilton to be pushing more in qualifying. At least Kimi brought Ferrari to the front row. I expected it to be nothing but McLaren in the front row. I wonder if the home town was too much for Hamilton.

Ferrari gets a bad start. So Massa stalls on the starting grid. Ooops… to pit lane for you. So that put Lewis and Kimi right on his tail from the start. I think Hamilton was maybe a little edgy being home. Only had to look at the first pit for him and he lurching with the lolly flipped and he lurched still with the fueling hose.

Scott, broken suspension this time… oh, when does it just go right for them?

So Alonso gets the extra points over Hamilton. Not to mention that Hamilton only gets 3rd at home. That must of hurt. Alonso was a little outspoken about catching up with Lewis on points from here on out. One thing to note is the Lewis has been on 9 podiums out of 9 races. That is a good trend for a noob this year huh.

Ralf Schumacher has agreed to slash his annual salary if it means he can keep his seat at Toyota in 2008.

The German, who has failed to live up to his reported $22m retainer for 2007 season, has offered to drive for under $5mil for the 2008 season.

His income could include a whopping bonus of $340k per point in 2008, but only if Toyota accepts the offer made.

Ralf really needs to stop driving Toyota into the dump. He has influenced the build and development of this car with Toyota and apparently that has not been in the right direction. He can’t be the entire blame and neither is Toyota… but this is just a bad match regardless of what his wife says. She also needs to stop trying to say BMW and Toyota is the same game for the Jr Schu… he is not Sr Schu!
