So the console gets updated with the fabulous new August 11 auto update on XBL.  Cause I need new avatar clothes right! NOT

Installs, reboots, gets to the “new” NXE updates and you notice everything is jerky and slow.  Think to one’s self, must be that everyone and their dog is on and updating so the tubes are full (right Mr Gore).  Tried to watch a vid or two, locks up each time at different points.  Forced shutdown each time.  Not real happy with the “new” features yet MS.

Try to play a little Fable II… don’t even get past the menu when the whole console locks again.  Still no ROR either.

Try it several more times over the course of several days each time it actually seems to get worse and worse.  Taking less and less time from startup for it to lock up.

Figure I would see what the fanboys and XBOX forums say… what do you know, top of the XBOX forums general discussion list:

Installed the latest Aug. 11 Update and 360 has stopped working

Entry after entry sounds similar to mine.  Figured, heck I am out of warranty so lets call MS support and see what line they sale me.  “I have a hardware failure.”  Really, I would of never guessed.

Since I am out of warranty, that would be 99 to fix broken hardware that you have been making money off of for years and the public/media knows!

Needless to say since it wasn’t a RROD, I was years past my warranty period and MS is currently ignoring the issue and not an issue.  So good customer service.

The best part of the story is that after getting off the support call, and the console is down to mere seconds before freezing now, it RROD the last time I cycle it.

I should just sale everything 360 related and go to the horrible PS3 or worse yet a Weeeeeee!

MS stinks tonight on the East coast.  I write software for a living and if I developed something that destroyed hardware, boy I would be out of a job!

So now what to do.. maybe it is time to hang up the gaming hat.

If MS promise of IPTV on the X360 comes true, there might just be another reason to own a X360 in your home. Ditch the old cable box and get TV goodness from the gaming console the “knows it can, it can, it can”.

The biggest problem? Holiday 2007! DOH
UPDATE:

It currently sounds like that IPTV will not be available in the current version of the 360. To support the new functionality you would have to get v2 of the X360 to be released near the end of 2007. If this is really true that is going to really stink for the 10.4 million that have their current version of the 360. Plus the HDMI rumor is now related to this v2 version. So far I have not found any 100% proof that this is true or not.

How did MS do for the holidays?

MS stated at CES that it had sold 10.4 million 360 consoles in 37 countries. Even more impressive was the sale of 2.7 million copies of Gears of War in the eight weeks since official launch.

Where was Sony, saying that they had made a million blue ray diode lasers so they could “ship” 1 million unit by the end of the year to the US. Shipped, not sold, not that anyone asked for them, just shipped so they could collect dust in your local Wally world or BestUBuy.

Anyone notice the high demand for PS3 has turned into a high demand for dusting at your local electronic boutique?

It would appear that if you walk into any retail store that sales game consoles you will find plenty of all three consoles (x360, wii, ps3). Ask what people are demanding after the holiday rush? Wii first, x360 next and then maybe a PS3 here and there. I have now heard from numerous store department managers that say they leave the PS3 in the back to leave more shelf space for Wii stock and then x360. It seems Sony isn’t feeling the love.

It seems the even with Sony touting their 1 million units “shipped” to the US quite of lot of that stock is not sold, but actually sitting around collecting dust.

Heck I had two department managers (1 big chain retailer and 1 big electronic retailer) both same similar things. People are actually returning “unopened” PS3 systems for credit and getting WiiX combo. (Wii + X360). Ouch, that has to hurt. Heck even if Sony somehow post good sales figures for Dec.. I would hate to see how much of that holds true in Jan when people when and got there 600 credits for other consoles.

Tendo and MS should have a solid alliance in that they both can share the living room / game room. Sony you just have soiled too many people. Come on, look at your glorious PSP, beautiful, but UMD. OUCH. What there is maybe 2 games for it since it release in March 2005?

Having used DecalGirl several times now, they are IMO the best skins. Besides wide variety of designs, superior materials, quick delivery and designs for the newest products.

Be it your Xbox, 360, PS3, PSP, DS, IPod even a Zune. If you have a laptop that needs a new life, they even have you covered. Not to mention, for any actual graphics designer they can make your custom solution for you!

I only suggest this duo because I personally have used their quality products and see that they are superior to anything else out there. PERIOD.
