Oh snap, finally some sound on the web for free. I am talking about sound samples in the nature of 30K all for free.
What is the service basically?
“Soundsnap is a free online sound library and community for sound designers and producers. People can upload sounds and share them with the world. ”
It was started it says by Tasos Frantzolas, a young sound designer living in Athens, Greece. Well I say hats off, because this was seriously lacking thing in the digital world. Anyone doing sound work knows that in the past you did one of three things:
- Buy a sample CD(s)
- Buy a sound effects “library”
- Make your own. (What are we LucasArts here?)
All three choices usually meant a great deal of money (if you wanted any kind of quality) or #3 meant way to much time and work.
You are Free:
- To remix or transform the sounds in any way
- To copy, distribute and transmit the sounds
- To use the sounds in any music, film, video game, website etc. whether commercial or not, without paying royalties or other fees
All I can say, this is a great resource even at this early point and only hope it grows, flourishes and provides great sound to the world!
Thank you Soundsnap. You provide the sounds and we will listen.
